January alignment and sustainability ...

As soon as Christmas is done and we reach new year, we shift from full festive vibes to new year new me vibes, and the question is “what’s your new years resolution and goals?”.

In my opinion this is too much, having never been a fan of new year resolutions I’ve always avoided this and like to start my January off differently.

I like to ease into January, after the busyness of December with all the highs it brings, starting off my new calendar year feeling nourished and rested feels good and sustainable and sets good foundations for the year ahead.

It’s also worth noting that we are in the depth of winter right now in the northern hemisphere, this is a time for inward reflection and hibernation, and it’s only when we reach the half way point to Spring Imbloc on the 2nd of February does everything start to wake up, and by Spring equinox the year is truly ready to start. So if you always feel a bit lower and sluggish in January and pushing seems hard and by mid Jan all the good intentions are out the window, it’s not surprising. Taking time to pause and reflect on things and let them really land with you and really allow them to align with you.

Therefore by looking at January differently and shifting your perspective and using it as a time to get clear, realign and create good foundations and habits, that you can sustainably keep up. You are setting yourself up for aligned success in a way that works for you and feels good and something that you can follow through with. This is also good for the nervous system as its not misaligned.

It may well be with the festive season all your self care went out the window with how busy you were so re-establishing that is a good way to start, when we nourish ourselves, our foundations are nourished. Therefore the energy behind the things we are trying to achieve or create, come from this nourished place with good foundations. This makes sense to me, it also means that things are sustainable which let’s face it is the key to success.

While I’m all for people reaching for the stars having big goals, I love this and doing this, the most important thing to remember is to make sure the things you’re reaching for are what you really want, not what you think you should be doing but what you really want. It’s great to get inspiration from the outside to expand into, however the true key to success is making sure that it’s truly aligned with you and feels good in your body and nervous system. There’s no perfect or right way, this is often where people get tripped up on and social media can often lead us down a rabbit hole of us thinking we have to be a certain way and have certain goals etc for success. Use social media to inspire you of course but don’t let it be the truth that leads you. Listen to your heart and create things to your version and truth, this is true success and when we do it from this place we are likely to go on to achieve the things we want, and it’s sustainable which is the best way to avoid burnout and the highs and lows that chasing something unaligned can cause.

This is why taking time to get clear and feel into the things you want is important and taking the time with this really helps, rather than letting yourself chase time or think it’s all on a timer to achieve things reminding yourself it’s not, we buy into the narrative time is running out. Work on your time, when we shift our perspective in this way it changes everything for us.

I hope this is a helpful reminder for anyone reading this, I’d love to hear your thoughts around this.

Do you ease into January?

Or do you get straight on the resolutions and goals?
